Together with Mobile World Investment Corporation (MWG), Samsung calls on users to join the journey toward sustainable development through simple and practical actions.

Samsung Vina Electronics has partnered with Mobile World Investment Corporation to launch the nationwide campaign Join Hands in Recycling Used Batteries. The program reflects the shared commitment and vision of both companies toward sustainable development, aiming to promote eco-friendly solutions that protect the environment and contribute to a better life.

Mr. Nguyễn Minh Tâm – Director of the Audio-Visual Electronics Division at Samsung Vina – shared: “As the world’s No.1 TV brand, Samsung not only leads in technological innovation but also strives to share responsibility for the environment, community, and society. At Samsung, sustainability is always a top priority, reflected through numerous technological innovations at every stage of the product lifecycle, aiming to create sustainable and eco-friendly products and solutions that contribute to driving positive change.”

Mr. Đặng Minh Lượm, Member of the Board of Directors in charge of Sustainable Development Strategy at Mobile World Investment Corporation, shared: “MWG is delighted to carry out this program, which represents one of our concrete actions to realize the Group’s vision for sustainable development. We hope that with our extensive retail network across three chains, Thegioididong, Dien May Xanh, and Bach Hoa Xanh, the meaningful message of this campaign will spread widely to our customers.”

Accordingly, Samsung and Mobile World Investment Corporation will place used battery collection bins at retail stores within the Bach Hoa Xanh chain (all locations in Ho Chi Minh City), Thegioididong, and Dien May Xanh (100 stores across three major cities: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang), as well as at Samsung service centers and offices.

Users can put used batteries neatly in sealed containers or jars and then drop them off at designated collection points - the collection bins are fully recycled from Samsung TV’s eco-packaging. The collected batteries will be transported to Samsung’s factory and safely processed in strict compliance with regulations at specialized waste treatment facilities. In addition, users are encouraged to choose environmentally friendly products, such as Samsung’s solar-powered TV remote. This third-generation SolarCell Remote is designed to be more compact, use fewer materials - made from 24% recycled plastic, and using solar energy or indoor radio frequency signals.

Used battery cores, once depleted, are classified as hazardous waste. A single improperly disposed battery can contaminate up to 500 liters of water or 1 cubic meter of soil for 50 years. When burned, the toxic components in batteries release harmful fumes that pollute the air. Once absorbed through food or inhalation, these toxins can cause serious harm to the human body. Properly handling used batteries plays a vital role in protecting the environment and raising public awareness about sustainable living.

Previously, Samsung has been a pioneer in adopting creative and sustainable approaches throughout its production, distribution, usage, and recycling processes, delivering products that contribute to a sustainable ecosystem. Six models of Neo QLED 2023 TVs have been certified by Carbon Trust for reduced CO₂ emissions. The company also converts CO₂ into recycled materials, provides eco-packaging for reuse, reduces oil-based ink on cardboard, eliminates metal staples, minimizes packaging size, and enhances AI-powered energy management through SmartThings;replacing printed catalogues and flyers with QR technology, allowing customers to access digital catalogues, significantly reduces printing, paper, and ink usage. In addition, the “Create a Green World” Eco-Packaging Recycling Contest has received widespread community support, showcasing many creative artworks made from TV packaging and becoming a meaningful annual competition over the years.

As the global leader in the TV market for 17 consecutive years, Samsung remains committed to promoting eco-friendly products and solutions, affirming its vision and dedication to the community on the journey toward sustainable development.

MWG is also a leading retailer in Vietnam pioneering various sustainable initiatives, from minimizing plastic bag usage in stores and encouraging customers to bring reusable, eco-friendly bags when shopping, to organizing charitable activities such as cleft lip and palate surgeries for children, rice donations, and free medical care for the poor. Moreover, MWG has applied advanced technology to save energy, optimize lighting systems, and improve cooling efficiency across its thousands of stores nationwide. The company has been consistently recognized among the top sustainable development Enterprises and those with the best sustainability indices in the stock market.
